MABEL HERMAN

LE MARS, Iowa --- Mabel Herman, 94, of LeMars, died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 1995, at Plymouth Manor Care Center.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Merrill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Shirley Textor officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m., at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.

Mrs. Herman was born Sept. 11, 1900, in Plymouth County, the daughter of Milton and Lena (Harbst) Gabel. She married Harvey Herman May 25, 1921, in Johnson Township. The couple farmed in the LeMars area until 1963 when they retired and moved into Merrill. They moved to LeMars in 1984 and Mr. Herman died in May 1985. She entered Plymouth Manor Care Center in August 1993.

Mrs. Herman was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Merrill and the United Methodist Women.

Survivors include five sons and their wives, Gerald and Kathryn of Villisca, Willard and Stella and Duane and Nancy, all of LeMars, Milford and Sharon of Grand Terrace, Calif., and Don and Gloria of Urbandale; five daughters, Eva Varenhorst, Deloris and her husband Don Bohlken, and Gladys Mroczkowski, all of LeMars, Marjorie and her husband Virgil Miller of Akron and Shirley and her husband Verlyn Baker of Pickstown, S.D.; 31 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Martha Philips of LeMars, Mildred Stoel of Akron, Leone Knowles of Council Bluffs and Evelyn Gabel of Santa Rose, N.M.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Leland in infancy and Milton and his wife, Elizabeth; two grandsons, Monty and Tierney Willer; two sons-in-law, Harry Varenhorst and Bob Mroczkowski and three sisters, Lillian Gabel, Edith Burkett and Alice Willer.

Pallbearers will be Lonny Willer, Dan Bohlken, Jeff Herman, Jim Herman, Brad Herman, Paul Baker, Tim Herman and Gary Herman.
