EVERETT A. SAMS

Everett A. Sams, 73, of LeMars, died Wednesday, March 11, 1998, at the Akron City Convalescent Care Center in Akron.

Everett Amos Sams was born Feb. 14, 1925, in LeMars, the son of Walter and Clara (Hollinger) Sams. He received his education in LeMars. He served his country during World War II in the infantry of the United States Army. He was stationed in the southern Philippines where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart Medal. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Everett had worked a farm for Charlie Coad for Several years.

He later moved to Arizona and worked in an underground mine for two years. In the late 1950’s he returned to LeMars and worked for Wilson Trailer Company in Sioux City, retiring in 1986 after 28 years with the firm.

He married Juanita Budomo Tejada on Sept. 15, 1980, in LeMars.

Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Clara and Ron Hunter of LeMars, Beverly and Pat Shannon of Council Bluffs, Marcia and David Bradley of Avoca, and Sarah and Sally Sams of LeMars; two sons, Darrell Sams of Omaha, Neb., and Everett “E.J.” Sams of LeMars; a brother, Don Sams of Luton; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David Sams in 1983, and a sister, Leona Petersen.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars with the Rev. Leonard Waller of the Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery, rural LeMars, with graveside military honors conducted by the Olson-Halweg American Legion Post 125 of Merrill. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today (Friday) with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Fred Heeren, Ralph Lambert, Stacey Nilles, Tom Nilles, Ron Hunter, and Pat Shannon.
