ROBERT SCHELL
Robert LeRoy Schell, 41, LeMars, died Wednesday (May 9, 1979) at Floyd Valley Hospital after a long illness. He had been hospitalized for a month.
Mr. Schell was interviewed in March 1978 by Daily Sentinel sports editor, Ron Baldwin, after he had learned a year earlier that he had cancer. Since that time and until his last illness he had been active in bowling.
He was born June 15, 1937, in Hermiston, Ore., and was an inspector for hydraulic cylinders.
Mr. Schell lived in Oregon as a young man and served in the navy from 1955 to 1962. He lived at Rockford, Ill., for eight years and moved to LeMars in 1972.
He married Donna Bishop May 4, 1962, in LeMars.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John's American Lutheran Church with Rev. Thomas Lee officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens under the direction of the Mauer funeral home.
He was a member of St. John's church, American Legion, Wasmer post 241, and American Bowling Congress.
Survivors are his wife, Donna; a daughter, Theresa and a son, Ron, all of LeMars; his mother, Mrs. Della Curry, Gig Harbor, Wash.; two brothers, Edward Schell, Richfield Springs, N.Y., and James of Umatilla, Ore.; a sister, Louise Koeppen, Bloomington, Calif.; two step-brothers, John Curry and Roscoe Curry, both of Valdez, Alaska, and a step-sister, Mrs. Verona Rhea, Bellingham, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his father.
