Leslie Sanow, 70, a Plymouth County native and lifelong resident, died Sunday (Dec. 9, 1990) at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars after an extended illness.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, LeMars, with a military rites at the graveside by Wasmer Post, 241, LeMars.
Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Tuesday with the family present from 7-8 p.m. at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.
Mr. Sanow was born March 18, 1920, in Henry Township, Plymouth County, to Otto and Olive Peters Sanow. He married Eilene Jean Beach on March 24, 1926, at St. John's American Lutheran Church in LeMars.
Mr. Sanow was employed by Westergard Well Drilling and Higman Sand and Gravel for many years, retiring in 1981.
He served with the Pacific Fleet in World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service in the Philippine Islands.
Survivors are his wife, Eilene, of LeMars; five daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Joan) Bruscher, of LeMars; Mrs. Keith (Barbara) Nicks of Hinton; Mrs. Dennis (Roberta) Lundquist of Sioux City; Mrs. Richard (Connie) Lalk of LeMars, and Mrs. William (Tracy) Lalk of Struble; two sons, James Sanow and his wife, Becky, of Struble, and William (Peter) Sanow and his wife, Sally, of Spencer; 23 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two sons-in-law, James Nicks and his wife, Mary, of Hinton and Mike VanderWeide and his wife, Sally, of Spencer.
He is also survived by two brothers, Lawrence Sanow of LeMars and Delbert Sanow of Struble; three sisters, Mrs. Melvin (Virginia) Schultz, LeMars; LaVonne Sannow of San Diego, and Mrs. Everett (Joyce) Gotto, of Glendora, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Suzanne Nicks and Bonnie VanderWeide in 1975; two brothers, Harold and Eldon and a sister, Marie.
