MERRILL, Iowa -- Minnie M. Knudsen, 86, of Merrill died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Burt Burwell officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Minnie Margaret Steen was born June 29, 1916, on the family farm near Brunsville, Iowa, to Herman and Emilie (Steinfadt) Steen. Minnie was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended country school near Brunsville.

Minnie was married to Leo Bishop on Nov. 16, 1936. Leo passed away in January 1953. Minnie later married Ross Port. Ross passed away in 1972. Minnie was united in marriage to Howard Knudsen on June 16, 1979, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars.

Minnie had worked for many years at Blau DX Cafe and the Waldorf Cafe in Le Mars. She enjoyed wallpapering for many local families.

Minnie was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She enjoyed entertaining and cooking for her guests.

Survivors include her husband of 23 years, Howard Knudsen of Merrill; a daughter and son-in-law, Charleen and Robert Hillterbrand of Des Moines, Iowa; three grandchildren, Teresa Schilmoeller, Lori Paul and Kelley Hillterbrand; a stepdaughter, Judy Schulz of Le Mars; a stepgranddaughter, Shelia Britt; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

Minnie also was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Donna Gundel; a sister, Dora Weber; a son-in-law, Robert Schell; and a grandson, Ronald Schell.

Pallbearers will be Paul Betsworth, Harold Betsworth, Jim Hoss, Ron Kunkel, Dan Utesch and Terry Utesch.
