ROBERT D. THARP

LE MARS, Iowa --- Robert Donald Tharp, 71, of LeMars, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at Akron Care Center in Akron, Iowa.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars, with the Rev. Marilyn Winch of Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, rural Akron.

Mr. Tharp was born Sept. 14, 1929, in Akron, Ohio, the son of William and Dorothy (Haines) Tharp. He was raised and educated in Akron, Ohio.

He married Dolores Ley in 1953, in Akron, Ohio. In 1967, he married Judith Rogers in Chesterville, Ohio. He was employed as a truck driver. He drove for Roadway Transportation for 12 years. Following his wife’s death in 1997, he moved to Iowa.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Connie and Marvin Black of Akron, Iowa; two grandchildren, Kyle and Rachel Black; two brothers and their wives, Bill and Dorothy of Tippacanoe, Ohio, and Jim and Gertie of Akron, Ohio; six sisters and their husbands, Earline and Sam Karipedius, Velda and Bob Graham, Helen and Jim Mollet and Della Anne and Mike Michaels, all of Akron, Ohio, Joane and Dan Lupton of Newark, Ohio, and Dorothy and Bud Riley, of Cleveland, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Robert Jr.
