A. T. PETERS DEAD AT 74A. T. Peters, 74, of 28 Ninth St. SW, died Saturday, Jan. 1, at Floyd Valley Hospital after an illness of several months. He had been hospitalized since Sept. 7.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Mauer funeral chapel with Rev. Ralph Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens under direction of the Mauer funeral home.
August Thomas Peters was born June 19, 1897, at Randolph, Neb., a son of the late Martin Christian and Lena Leuenhagen Peters.
He and Beth Hoyt were married Nov. 16, 1920, at Crofton, Neb. At that time he was associated with the Farmers and Merchants Bank at Bloomfield.
Mr. Peters was a retired auto dealer and farmer. In 1924 the Peters family moved to a farm near Bloomfield, Neb., where they lived until 1935. While at Bloomfield he was co-owner of the Ford agency until 1940 when the family moved to LeMars.
From 1940 until his retirement in 1953 Mr. Peters was owner of the LeMars Motor Co., adding the Ford line of farm implements in 1946. In later years he has managed a farm near LeMars.
He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Christ; Masonic lodge, American Legion, veteran of World War I, Elks Club and had served on the LeMars and Bloomfield school boards for many years.
He also served on the rationing board during World War II and was very active in community affairs. While a student at the University of Nebraska he was affiliated with the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
Mr. Peters was preceded in death by his wife, Beth, on May 19, 1965, and by his parents.
Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. F. William (Betty) Trescott, of Hinsdale, Ill., and Mrs. Claire (Jane) Steele of LeMars; a son, Donald M. Peters of LeMars; 14 grandchildren and a great grandchild.
Other survivors are the three children of Mrs. Peter’s late sister which were reared by Mr. and Mrs. Peters. They are Robert H. Simmons of Falls Church, Va., Joanne Simmons of Wichita, Kan., and Dr. Jerry L. Simmons of Los Angeles. Also surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Anna Cook of Bloomfield, Neb., Mrs. Harry Horn of Laguana Hills, Calif., Mrs. L. Howard Place of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. J. W. Miller of Pasadena, Calif.
