HAROLD W. “RUSTY” OSTLUND
Harold W. “Rusty” Ostlund, 92, LeMars, died early Friday morning at the Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars after a short illness.
Mr. Ostlund was born on May 10, 1905, in Willmar, Minn., to Olaf Edward Ostlund and Alfrida Cambria (Bergstrom) Ostlund. He was a member of the first graduating class at Maurice High School in 1924 and attended barber college in Omaha, Neb.
He married Nona Elizabeth Keyline in 1924 and together they had five children. He served with the Iowa National Guard Company K, 133rd Infantry from 1932-1937. He was a barber locally until 1948.
On Jan. 18, 1943, he married Dena Osborne Rask. She died on Feb. 16, 1982. He worked for the Great Northern Railroad from 1949 until 1970.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in LeMars. He had lived at the Floyd Valley Apartments for almost 10 years, until recently.
He is survived by three sons, Rev. Douglas Ostlund and his wife, Sally, Bertha, Minn., LeRoy Ostlund and his wife, Shirley, Gaudette, Minn., and Gordon Ostlund and his wife, Frankey, Story, Ark.; two daughters, Susan and her husband, Dr. Michael Reilly, Victoria, Texas, and Linda and Virgil Schiefen, LeMars; a stepson, Thomas Rask and his wife, Dixie, Edison, Neb.; a step-daughter, June Hindsley, Lincoln, Neb.; 28 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and five great great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Dena; infant son, Richard; daughter, Patricia and son-in-law, Vernon Johnston; grandsons, Kyle Walsh and Dana Fisher; four brothers and five sisters.
Services are Monday, Sept. 15, at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in LeMars, with Rev. Lynn Potter conducting the services. Burial will be in the Resthaven Memory Gardens.
