Anton J. “Tony” Prokop, 83, of LeMars, died Monday, July 10, 2000, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.
Anton “Tony” Jerry Prokop was born Aug. 30, 1916, on the family farm in Thurston, Neb., the son of Emil and Alma (Fiela) Prokop. Tony was raised in the Thurston area and attended country school. Following school, Tony worked on a farm in Nebraska. He married Angeline “Angie” Doupnik on Jan. 18, 1941, at West Point, Neb. Tony and Angie farmed in Nebraska and alter moved to a farm north of LeMars in 1952. He continued to farm until 1980 when they moved to LeMars. He had worked for the LeMars Community School District in the lunch program for seven years retiring in 1987.
Tony was a member of the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in LeMars.
He enjoyed woodworking, making craft items and playing cards.
Survivors include his wife; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Colleen Prokop of Marian, and Larry and Svitlana Prokop of Rochester, Minn.; a sister Mamie Novotny of South Sioux City, Neb.; three brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Grace Prokop of Dallas Drive, Ore., Harry and Dixie Prokop of Emerson, Neb., and Raymond and Bonnie Prokop of Thurston, Neb.; two grandchildren, Hillary and Corey Prokop of Marian; and several nieces and nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lambert in infancy and Alvin; and a sister, Mildred Orey.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in LeMars with the Rev. Randy Knuth officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery, LeMars. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars with a 7 p.m. prayer service Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Ken Novotny, Ken Prokop, Bob Fendrick, Dennis Doupnik, Larry Doupnik, and Greg Hawkins.
