STEVEN A. OETKEN
Steven A. Oetken, 37, of Omaha, Neb., and formerly of LeMars, died Saturday, May 16, 1998, in Omaha of a heart arrhythmia.
Steven Andrew Oetken was born May 7, 1961, in LeMars, the son of Herman and Frances (Kloster) Oetken. Steven was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in LeMars. He graduated from LeMars Community High School in 1979. He attended Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb., where he was president of the Wayne State Student Senate. He received his bachelor’s degree in business administration and finance form Wayne State College in May 1983. He later received his master of business administration degree from the University of Nebraska, Omaha, in 1987.
He had worked for Methodist Hospital Corporation, ConAgra, Smart Pay and E-Com, all in Omaha.
On Oct. 17, 1987, he married Jill Taylor at First Plymouth Presbyterian Church, rural LeMars. The couple made their home in Omaha.
Steven was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Omaha, Delta Sigma Pi business Fraternity and the Omaha Executive Association. He enjoyed playing golf, music and reading.
Survivors include his wife, Jill, and a daughter, Laurel, of Omaha; his father, Herman B. Oetken, of LeMars; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Kaye and Merlin Schipper of LeMars and Joane and Roger Rothwell of Sioux City; a brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Vicki Oetken of New Ulm, Minn.; several aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances M. Oetken, on June 27, 1990.
Funeral Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A., in LeMars, with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today (Tuesday) with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Kraemer, Rich Horner, Greg Utesch, Jay Hummel, Jay Faber and Doug Martin.
