Lester H. Nitzschke, 68, lifelong Remsen resident, died unexpectedly of an apparent heart attack on Sunday, Nov. 6, 1988, near LeMars.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, at St. Paul Lutheran Church here. Burial was in Resthaven Memory Gardens, LeMars, under the direction of the Fisch Funeral Home.

Graveside military rites were conducted by American Legion Post 220 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3328, of Remsen.

Mr. Nitzschke was born May 17, 1920, at Remsen to Paul and Marie (Lanners) Nitzschke. He was raised and educated in the Remsen area and graduated from Remsen High School in 1937.

He was in partnership with Ray Witt in the Cities Service gas station and operated his own bulk oil truck, for a total of 40 years in the petroleum business. He was currently manager of the Remsen V.F.W. Club. He was also a bus driver for Remsen-Union School for 22 years.

Mr. Nitzschke served in the Army during World War II, from August 22, 1942, to April 25, 1946.

He married Elizabeth Fasch on Sept. 6, 1947, at Nashua, Ia. He married Stella Schleis on July 12, 1983, at Baldwin Park, Calif.

He was a member of St.Paul Lutheran Church of Remsen, Remsen V.F.W. Post 3328, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Surviving are his wife Stella, of Remsen; two sons, Gene of Sioux City and Arthur of Sioux Falls, S.D.; two daughters, Mrs. William (Candyce) Simms of Durango, Colo., and Mrs. Doug (Linda) Goodman of Fort Collins, Colo.; five stepsons, Jim and Mike Schleis of Harlan, Ia., John Schleis of Remsen, Robert Schleis of The Woodlands, Tex., and Richard Schleis of Baldwin Park, Calif.; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Joe (Nancy) Gagnon of Baldwin Park, Calif., Mrs. Larry (Patsy) Adams of Springfield, Tex., Mrs. Claire (Jeanie) Konz, of the Woodlands, Tex.; two sisters, Mrs. Ervin (Fern) Klemme and Mrs. Andrew (Pearl) Brown, both of Akron, Ia.; a half-brother, Paul Nitzschke of LeMars; a half-sister, Mrs. Lowry (Leila) Smith of Sioux City; four grandchildren; and 18 step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Marie Nitzschke and his step-mother, Vira Nitzschke.

Casket bearers were Dwayne Douvia, Wayne Heidesch, Joseph Kane, DeWayne Meneely, Frankling Tritz and Van Weinreich.
