Funeral services for Rev. Harry H. Meyer, 74, LeMars, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in LeMars.

Rev. H. H. Schauland will officiate and burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, LeMars, under the direction of the Mauer funeral home.

A prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Rev. Meyer, former longtime pastor at Grace Lutheran, died unexpectedly Dec. 23, 1980, at Lincoln, Neb., while on a Christmas vacation with a son, Dr. Charles J. Ansorge.

Rev. and Mrs. Meyers had retired to LeMars recently.

Memorials are to be designated by the family for Grace Lutheran Church.

Rev. Meyer was born Sept. 6, 1906, at Macedonia, Iowa, to Adolph and Sophie Heitman Meyer. For his elementary education, he attended schools in Silver City and Council Bluffs.

In preparation for the ministry, Pastor Meyer entered St. John's preparatory school, Winfield, Kan., in the fall of 1924, and was graduated in the spring of 1930.

In the fall of 1930 he entered Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Mo., and was graduated in June 1934.

During his ministry, Pastor Meyer served as an assistant pastor at Trinity Lutheran, Marcus 1934-1935. He was missionary-at-large in the Keosauqua area from 1935 to 1936.

On Feb. 16, 1936, he was ordained in the holy ministry at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Council Bluffs. He was installed as pastor of Calvary church, Lester and English church, Larchwood and served until 1942.

In 1942 he became pastor of Grace Lutheran Church, LeMars. He served 20 years in LeMars. He was then installed as pastor of Zion Lutheran Church, Falls City, Neb., in 1965, and Trinity Lutheran Church in Oscoda, Mich., in 1968. He also served at Oscoda air base.

Pastor Meyer served Bethany Lutheran Church, Omaha, as a visitation pastor 1973-1975, and completed his ministry as a semi-retired pastor at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Hastings, Iowa, 1975-1980.

On May 18, 1952, Pastor Meyer was united in marriage with Selma Mueller Ansorge.

Surviving are their three sons, Dr. Charles J. Ansorge, Lincoln, Neb.; William J. Ansorge, New York City; and Rev. Dennis H. Meyer, Covington, Ky. They have four grandchildren, Gretchen, John and Katherine, children of Charles and Marcille Ansorge, and Aaron, son of Dennis and Sue Meyer.

Other survivors are a sister, Hilda Meyer, Versailles, Mo., and two brothers, E. A. (Dick) Meyer, Versailles, Mo., and Oscar Meyer of Spearfish, S.D.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Carl and Adolph, and a sister, Alma.
