ROZELLA MAE MERRITT

Funeral for Rozella Mae Merritt, 79, LeMars, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at St. John's American Lutheran Church in LeMars.

Rev. David Kramer will officiate and burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, LeMars, under the direction of the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. Wednesday and a prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Merritt died June 28, 1987, at Sioux City St. Luke’s Hospital after an extended illness.

She was born Oct. 21, 1907, at Bancroft, S.D., to George W. and Lorena Fett Farmer. She married Phil Hayden Aug. 3, 1927, in LeMars. She married Percy Merritt July 2, 1949, at Vermillion. She was a longtime LeMars resident.

Survivors are two daughters, Sallee Christiansen, of LeMars and Joan Mitchell, of Albuquerque, N.M.; three sons, Vernon Hayden, of Norfolk, Va., Philip Hayden of Kingman, Ariz., and Gerald Hayden of Pensacola, Fla.; three step-sons, George H. Merritt of Russell, Pa., Milton E. and Merle E. Merritt, both of 29 Palms, Calif.; two brothers, Kenneth and Vernon Farmer, both of Brunsville; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Percy Merritt in 1987 and a brother.
