LE MARS, Iowa -- John Luschen Jr., 75, of Le Mars died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church E.L.C.A. in Le Mars, with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, with military rites conducted by American Legion Wasmer Post 241 of Le Mars. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with the family present after 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars.
John Luschen Jr. was born Oct. 18, 1927, in Hawarden, Iowa, to John and Martha (Twillman) Luschen. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden. He attended school in Hawarden and graduated from Hawarden High School in 1946. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1946, and was stationed in Kokura, Japan. He was assigned to the 24th Division, as an instructor for auto mechanics. He was honorably discharged in 1947.
He was united in marriage to Dorothy Witt on June 3, 1948, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. He worked in the service department at the Chevrolet dealership in Le Mars from 1948 to 1961. In 1961, he began his career with Wells' Dairy as a route salesman. In 1989, he retired after 29 years with the dairy.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and American Legion Wasmer Post 241. He was an ardent supporter of Bulldogs athletics. He volunteered on the "chain gang" for home football games for several years. He also enjoyed watching and listening to sports, camping and playing cards. He was very proud of his children and loved being "grandpa."
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Dorothy of Le Mars; two children and their spouses, Renae and Curt Buss and Keith and Mary Luschen, all of Le Mars; two sisters, Mildred Plueger of Le Mars, and Cleone and her husband, LeRoy Andersen of Sioux City; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Winnifred Ten Napel; and two grandchildren, Darbi Buss and Alex Luschen.
Pallbearers will be Dennis, Gary and Robert Ten Napel, Kenneth and Scott Tiesler, Gregory and Randy Andersen and Rod Plueger. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Megan, Aaron, Maddalyn and Clayton Luschen and Brennan, Koster, Silas and Dacia Buss.
