Funeral services for Herbert A. Ladenthin, 66, Plymouth County native and longtime LeMars resident, will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, LeMars.

Rev. H. H. Schauland will officiate and burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens under the direction of the Mauer Funeral Home.

A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Ladenthin died March 1, 1983, at Marian Health Center, Sioux City, after a brief illness. He had undergone surgery after being hospitalized two days.

He was born April 10, 1916, in Lincoln Township, Plymouth County, to Jacob and Louise Krause Ladenthin. He graduated from Hinton High School and from National Business Training in Sioux City. He farmed before moving to LeMars.

His marriage to Lydia Lang took place April 10, 1951, at Grace Lutheran Church in LeMars.

He enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hinton, and later after moving to LeMars in 1955 he became a member of Grace Lutheran Church. He held various offices in both Trinity and Grace Churches, serving for several years on the district board of Lutheran Layman’s League.

He was a bookkeeper and office manager at Good Morning Mills in LeMars for many years and later at the LeMars Hatchery and Feed Co. He retired in 1979.

Survivors are his wife, Lydia, LeMars; three brothers, Walter of LeMars, Laurence, Kingsley, and Harold of Marcus; and two sisters, Mrs. John (Ella) Gotto and Edna Ladenthin, both of LeMars.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William.
