LE MARS, Iowa --- Leila M. Kruse, 77, of LeMars, a lifelong Plymouth county resident, died Thursday, July 12, 2001, at her residence following a brief illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 2 to 4 p.m., and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the church. Visitation will resume at 9 a.m. Monday at the church.
Mrs. Kruse was born March 5, 1924, in Washington Township, rural Plymouth County, Iowa, the daughter of William and Bertha (Gardner) Utesch. She was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Johnson Township. She graduated from LeMars Central High School in 1943. During World War II she worked for Western Union Telegraph Company in Sioux City, and also worked in Cleveland and Minneapolis.
She married Elmer Kruse on Oct. 17, 1947, at St. John's Lutheran Church in LeMars. They farmed and raised livestock near LeMars for many years. He died Feb. 24, 1989.
She was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church where she was a member of Epithatha Circle. She enjoyed caring for her flower garden on the farm.
Survivors include four sons, David, Eugene, and Bruce of LeMars, and Roger and his wife, Dianna of Des Moines; a daughter, Barbara Kruse of LeMars; four brothers and their wives, Ronald and Helen Utesch of Sioux City, Art and Elaine Utesch of Wynot, Neb., and Arnold and June Utesch of Loveland, Colo.; a sister, Elvira Schulz of LeMars; and five grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Everett Utesch and three sisters in infancy.
