VERDA E. KRUSE

Verda E. Kruse, 72, of LeMars, died Monday, Jan. 2, 1995, at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center after an illness with cancer.

Verda Emma Frauhigher was born Oct. 7, 1922, on the family farm near Bremen, Kan., the daughter of Henry and Emma (Wasserman) Fraughigher. She grew up at Bremen and attended Immanuel Lutheran Parochial School at Bremen. On April 16, 1948, she married Urban Kruse in Bremen. The couple moved to LeMars where they owned and operated the DX Station for 30 years. Mr. Kruse died Jan. 2, 1986.

Mrs. Kruse was very active at Grace Lutheran Church. She was a Sunday school teacher, VBS teacher, Ladies Aid member, choir member, and a charter member of the JOY Ladies. She was very involved in her children’s lives. She enjoyed going to her children’s band concerts, ball games and children’s programs at church. Both Verda and Urban were very much involved with children’s activities throughout the community.

Survivors include her children and their families, Mary Ann and Kraig Johnson and their children, Krista and Ryan of Grand Rapids, Mich., Janette and Robert Coover and their son, Brandon of LeMars, Wayne and Lynette Kruse and their children Jerrid and Joel of LeMars, Sharon Kruse and her children, Joseph and Adam Cooper of LeMars, and two children Urban and Verda raised, Tim and Mary Galvin and their children, Sam and Elizabeth of LeMars, and Janna and Vernon Sitzmann and their children, Lauri, Lisa, Brad and Jake of LeMars; two brothers, Arlin Frauhigher of Bremen, Kan., and Rueben and Lois Frauhigher of Gilbert City, Ariz.; and a sister, Aloha Svoboda of Marysville, Kan.

She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Larry Fett officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 6 to 9 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.
