URBAN KRUSE
Urban Kruse, 62, retired LeMars businessman, died unexpectedly Thursday afternoon (Jan. 2, 1986) at his home at 24 3rd Ave. SW. He had been in failing health after a series of heart attacks.
He retired in May 1984 after 30 years as owner of Kruse DX Service Station on Plymouth St. SE in downtown LeMars.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 6, at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor H. H. Schauland and Vicar Timothy Mueller officiating.
Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens under the direction of the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home where a prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
Mr. Kruse was active in church affairs and a member of Wasmer Post of American Legion, Iowa Gasoline Dealer’s Association, LeMars Sertoma Club and a former LeMars Chamber of Commerce member.
He was outstanding in his support of LeMars Little League baseball and was honored as father of the year in 1971.
Urban Wayne Kruse was born Aug. 21, 1923, a son of George and Wilhelmina Brenneke Kruse, at Bremen, Kan., where he attended Immanuel Lutheran Parochial School.
Mr. Kruse served in the Navy during World War II. His marriage to Verda Frauhiger took place in Bremen, April 16, 1948. The couple had lived in LeMars since their marriage.
Survivors are his wife, Verda of LeMars; three daughters and a son, Mrs. Kraig (Mary) Johnson of Grand Rapids, Mich., Janette Kruse, Wayne Kruse and Mrs. Tom (Sharon) Cooper, all of LeMars. Mrs. Vernon (Janna) Sitzmann and Tim Galvin made their home with the Kruse family since 1970. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren; two sisters, Orlinda Linkugel of Bremen, Kan., and Vernetta Bredwell of Beatrice, Neb.; and a brother, Virgil Kruse of Oswego, Kan. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
