PHYLLIS M. MC ATEE

Phyllis M. McAtee, 81, of Sioux City, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 1998, at a Sioux City nursing home following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Tim Blanchard, pastor of Central Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mrs. McAtee was born April 6, 1916, in Lincoln Township, Plymouth County, Iowa, the daughter of William and Byrdie (Saunders) Langle. She graduated from Sioux City Central High School and Morningside College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1938. She received her Iowa Advanced Elementary Teachers Certificate in 1939 from Iowa State Teachers College.

She married Ralph McAtee on June 5, 1943, in McCook Lake, S.D. He preceded her in death. She taught school at Cushing (Iowa) High School and South Sioux City High School. She was principal and taught at Jefferson (S.D.) High School and principal at Hubbard (Neb.) High School. She was also the librarian for St. Vincent’s Hospital School of Nursing.

She was a member of Central Baptist Church, the American Association of University Women, the Alpha Signam Sorority, the Phi Sigma Iota, which is a National Sorority, the Honorary Fraternity for Romance Languages and the Senior Citizens Center.

Survivors include a sister, Opal Holt of Sioux City; a nephew and his wife, Carleton and Judy Holt of Dakota Dunes; two grand-nephews, Austin and Cody; and her special friend, Perry Jewitt.

She was preceded in death by a brother.

Pallbearers will be Steven Fisher, Dan Ryan, Ed Young, Perry Jewitt, Carl Johansen, Bill and Greg Schroeder.
