Moir, Evelyn 1915-2000

LE MARS, Iowa --- Evelyn Marie Moir, 85, of LeMars, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in LeMars, with the Rev. Ed Frank officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m. at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.

Mrs. Moir was born April 25, 1915, in Sanborn, Iowa, the daughter of Andrew Emil and Margaret (Lecher) Dixon. When her mother died, she was raised by Walter and Marie (McKnight) Baldwin in Fredonia Township, Plymouth County, Iowa. She attended rural school and graduated from LeMars High School in 1933. She received her Normal Training at Westmar College in LeMars and taught in rural schools.

She married Glenn A. Moir on Sept. 20, 1935. The couple farmed in Sherman Township, Sioux County, Iowa, from 1935 to 1967. They retired and moved to LeMars. Her husband died May 23, 1988.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church and LeMars Hobby Club. She served as superintendent of the Plymouth County Fair Creative Arts and Crafts Department for seven years. She also raised dogs and wrote articles for Dog World magazine. She enjoyed singing, playing piano and sewing.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Richard G. and Audra of Orange City, Iowa; a daughter and her husband, Janice E. and Earl Albert of LeMars; eight grandchildren, Mark, Michael and David Moir, Leigh Turner, Lynn Busch and Katheryn, Karen, and Steve Albert; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lucille Crane of Junction City, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a foster brother.
