LOIS JANSSEN
HAWARDEN, Iowa --- Lois Janssen, 71, of Hawarden, died unexpectedly Saturday, Jan. 27, 1996, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden, with the Rev. Loren Vogler officiating. Burial will be in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Tuesday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden.
Mrs. Janssen was born July 13, 1924, in Akron, Iowa, the daughter of John and Clara (Westergard) Barinsky. She attended a rural school and graduated from the Hawarden High School in 1942. She furthered her education at area colleges. On Jan. 21, 1946, she married Lester Janssen in Hawarden. The couple made their home in Hawarden, where she taught a rural schools for 14 years.
Mrs. Janssen was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and was a lamplighter. She was also a member of the Big Sioux River Historical Society.
Survivors include her husband, one daughter, Rhonda Duncan and her fiancé Ron Cortez of Des Moines, Iowa; one son and his wife, Paul and Lisa of Hawarden, and one granddaughter, Colby Janssen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, John Barinsky, Jr. and one sister, Lola Kaelke.
