ONAWA, Iowa -- Harriet "Hattie" Kranz, 97, of Onawa, formerly of Kingsley, Iowa, died Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, at her daughter's residence in Onawa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church in Kingsley, with the Revs. Duane Meister and Edward Brandt officiating. Burial will be in Kingsley Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Hattie was born Nov. 9, 1906, in Ida Grove, Iowa, the daughter of George and Anna (Runge) Rusch. She graduated from Ida Grove High School, and attended Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She taught country school west of Kingsley in 1926 and 1927.

She married Herman F. Kranz on Oct. 5, 1927, in Pierson, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Kingsley and Merrill, Iowa, areas until 1957, when they moved to Wyoming. After Herman's death on July 12, 1972, in Cheyenne, Wyo., she returned to the Kingsley and Ida Grove area and cared for her parents. The past 11 years, she had resided in Onawa.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ute, Iowa.

Survivors include her children, Karmen and her husband, George Cormany of Onawa, Russell Kranz of Onawa, Dorothy Sitzman of Sioux City, Naomi Lawson of Springdale, Ark., Richard Kranz and his wife, Sandy of Cheyenne, Wyo., Julie and her husband, Lee Phillips of Holyrood, Kan., and Kerri and her husband, Max Bishop of Chandler, Ariz.; 23 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and a sister, Caroline Jeffries of Huntington, Ga.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Marjorie Kranz and Gienna Parker; a grandson, Clint Parker; a granddaughter, Joanna Solomon; and two sisters, Lelia Jackson and Dorothy Rusch.
