David L. Fowler, 67, of Sioux City died Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, at Akron (Iowa) City Convalescent Care Center following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. James United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bernie Colorado officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

David Lee Fowler was born Oct. 9, 1936, in Sioux City, the son of Herman David John and Fay Marie (Mercer) Fowler. He attended Central High School. He served in the U.S. Navy.

He married Margery Trisler on Sept. 12, 1959, in Sioux City at St. James United Methodist Church. She passed away on April 28, 2004. Mr. Fowler was a lifelong resident of the Sioux City area. He was employed with the Sioux City Fire Department for over 20 years. He was also a journeyman electrician and building inspector for several small communities including Akron, Iowa, Elk Point, S.D. and South Sioux City.

He was a member of St. James Methodist Church for over 50 years. He was a member of Masonic Lodge (Morningside) and Fireman's Union No. 7. David enjoyed golfing, fishing, trips to Minnesota, the lottery in North Sioux City, stock car racing in the red No. 26 car and being the supervisor.

Survivors include four sons, Bruce and his wife, Vickie Fowler and Tim and his wife, Kelley Daugherty Fowler, all of Sioux City, Randy Fowler of Sioux Falls, S.D. and Mark and his wife, Aimee Fowler of Sioux City; two brothers and their wives, Dick and Neva Fowler of Urbandale, Iowa and Don and Connie Fowler of Westminster, Colo.; two sisters, Marjorie Mancuso of Cupertino, Calif. and Barb and Milton Wurth of Marcus, Iowa; 14 grandchildren, Erica, Josh, David, Samantha, Preston, Ashley, Nicole, Cody, Alison, Tyler, Joseph, Stacey, Jaden and Nathan; and expecting the first great-grandchild in March of 2005.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant daughter, Mary Louise Fowler.

Pallbearers will be Bruce Fowler, Tim Fowler, Mark Fowler, Earl Trisler, Mark Butzke, Joel Hansen and Rick Hicks. Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Fowler, Joshua Fowler and David T. Fowler.
