Catherine R. Foster, 73, of Sioux City died Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, at Westwood Nursing & Rehab Center following a brief illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Charles E. Horkey of Hope Lutheran Church of South Sioux City officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Catherine R. Foster was born May 25, 1930, in Westfield, Iowa, the daughter of Phillip and Winifred (Foust) Beaubien Sr.

She married Melvin William Foster on July 17, 1948, in Dakota City. Melvin preceded Catherine in death on April 3, 1990, in Sioux City. She moved from Westfield to Sioux City in 1948. She briefly worked for Zenith Corporation at one time.

She was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed baking.

Survivors include her children, Melvin William "Bill" Foster Jr. and his wife, Chris of Sioux City, Nancy Chester and her husband, Jerry of South Sioux City, Barbara Harbison and her husband, LaVern "Boone" of Schuyler, Neb., Mary Manke of Sioux City, Phyllis Cooper and her husband, Gary Sr. of Sioux City, Phillip "Pee Wee" Foster and his wife, Mary Lou of Ft. Collins, Colo., Rose Ramirez of South Sioux City, Betty Schoen and her special friend, Rick Youngbear of Schuyler, Michael Foster of Ft. Collins, and Kathy Foster of Sioux City; and 108 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Joseph in infancy; two sisters; and four brothers.

Pallbearers will be Russell Chester, Wesley Foster, Mickey Schafer, Loren Karges, Tony Olivares and Michael Foster Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be James Foster, Bryan Chester, Gene Schafer, Maria Hering, Kristy Foster and Barbara Castro.
