DARLENE N. JURGENSEN

Darlene N. Jurgensen, 85, of LeMars, died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000, at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars.

Darlene Nellie Butcher was born Feb. 4, 1915, in Sioux City, the daughter of Jessie and Nellie (Peck) Butcher. Darlene was raised and educated in Akron. She was united in marriage to Clifford Jurgensen on Feb. 25, 1933, in Akron. The couple farmed near Akron for several years. Darlene had worked for The Boys and Girls Home in Sioux City for several years and later worked at Plymouth Life for 15 years until her retirement in the early 1980’s. The couple moved to LeMars in 1981. During her retirement years, Darlene provided child care in her home for many years.

She was a longtime member of the Assembly of God Church in LeMars and participated in the Women’s Missionary Circle. She enjoyed reading and studying the Bible and embroidery.

Survivors include a daughter, Connie Anderson, of Cherokee; a son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Phyllis Jurgensen of Sioux City; a son-in-law, Jim Ragsdale of Cherokee; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and five great great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie and Nellie Butcher, her husband Clifford in December of 1996; four daughters, Rosemary Jurgensen, Beverly Cosgrove, Garnet Jurgensen and Dorothy Ragsdale; and a brother, Glen Butcher.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, at the Assembly of God Church in LeMars with the Rev. Dan Krause officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitations will be after 2 p.m. Sunday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.
