LE MARS, Iowa --- Doris Ina Johnson, 85, of LeMars, died Thursday, March 2, 2000, at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in LeMars.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary United Methodist Church in LeMars with the Rev. Joe Florendo officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Tuesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.
Mrs. Johnson was born Aug. 29, 1914, on the family farm near Merrill, Iowa, the only child of Benjamin Franklin “Frank” and Ina Revina (Donlin) Zimmerman. She graduated from LeMars Central High School in 1931.
She married John H. Johnson on Nov. 22, 1934, in Merrill. They farmed southeast of Merrill until retiring to LeMars in 1979.
She worked as a homemaker and part-time school bus driver.
She belonged to the Merrill-Stanton EUB Church and Calvary United Methodist Church, the General Federated Women’s Club and several card clubs.
She enjoyed gardening, flowers, traveling, making patchwork quilts and playing pinochle.
Survivors include three daughters, Ina Gatts of LeMars, Lorna Easton and her husband Jim of Hawarden, and Mary Lykke and her husband, Bob, of Omaha; a son, Harley Johnson and his special friend Helene Jolette of Montreal, Canada; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by in death by her husband who died March 1, 1990 and an infant grandson.
