Genevieve G. Williams

Genevieve G. Williams, 99, of Sioux City, died Tuesday, May 22, 2007, at a local nursing home.
Genevieve was born Nov. 8, 1907, in Mapleton, the daughter of J.O. and Gertrude (Hatch) Griffith. She grew up in the Mapleton area and graduated from Mapleton High School. She then attended Morningside College where she received a teaching certificate. Genevieve taught school for several years in Perry Township in Plymouth County.

Genevieve married Lester Williams on March 19, 1932, in Sioux Falls, S.D. They made their home in the Hinton area. She then became a homemaker and mother.

Genevieve was the secretary for Hancock Township school district for 20 years. She was also a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Sioux City. Genevieve loved attending auctions and collecting antiques.

She is survived by her children, Jan Nelson of Sioux City and Dennis Trometer and his wife, Janice of Jamaica, Iowa; a granddaughter, Debbie McEnriy; two great-granddaughters, Melissa and Alisha Stauffer, and one great-great-granddaughter, Stella Stauffer, all of Phoenix, Ariz.; five brothers-in-law, Gary Williams of Westfield, John Williams of Sioux City, Howard Williams of South Sioux City, Neb., Dick Williams of Merrill and Paul Williams of Hinton; and two sisters-in-law, Jean Woodruff and Doris Williams, both of Los Angeles, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lester on Sept. 1, 2001; a brother, Orland Griffith, and two sisters, Gladys Neuhart and Lolita Walker.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Laurice Streyffeler officiating. Burial will follow at Liberty Township Cemetery in rural Hinton. Visitation will be Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. The family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. and there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m.
