ANNA M. HILLRICHS

Anna M. Hillrichs, 93, of Akron, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1998, at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Sioux City following a stroke.

The former Anna Tapper was born Oct. 6, 1905, in White, S.D., the daughter of Harm B. and Anna (Weers) Tapper. She and her family later moved to Plymouth County, Iowa. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Preston Township, rural Akron.

On Jan. 19, 1934, she married Ben Hillrichs at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church rural Akron. The couple farmed in the Akron area until Mr. Hillrich’s death in 1971. Anna later moved to Akron.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. She was active in the Ladies Aid and as a choir member for many years in the church. She served on the governing board of the Akron Senior Citizens Center and was active in its craft room. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and making quilts for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include one daughter, Eunice Klemme of Akron; four grandchildren, Lynette and her husband, Howard Altena, of Rock Valley, LaNay and her husband, Steve Welch, of Akron, Greg and his wife, Paulette Klemme, of Sioux City, and Matthew Klemme of Kansas City, Mo.; nine great grandchildren; one sister and her husband, Minnie and Eldon Kallsen of LeMars; several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Etta Klemme; and five brothers, Gerhard, Bill, John, Henry and Ben.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron with the Rev. Allen Bidne officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery, rural LeMars. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.

Pallbearers will be four great-grandsons, Troy and Evan Altena and Jerod and Rob Welch; two great-granddaughters, Jennifer Welch, and Tricia and her husband, Brian Mulder; and two grandsons, Greg and Matthew Klemme.
