ODIE G. HERBST

Odie G. Herbst, 77, of rural Merrill died Tuesday (May 12, 1992) at Marian Health Center, Sioux City.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars with Rev. Frank Philipp officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens in LeMars. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Thursday with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Herbst was born Jan. 29, 1915, at Merrill to Gustav and Katherine (Arbuck) Herbst. He married Mary Anne Bremer at Dakota City, Neb. He was a retired farmer and had lived in the Merrill area all of his life. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and was a member of the Olesen-Halweg Post 125 American Legion.

Survivors include his wife; six sons, Harlan Herbst and his wife, Vikki, of LeMars, Elwin Herbst and his wife Brenda of Maurice, Marlin Herbst and his wife, Myra, Darwin Herbst and his wife, Susann, Norman Herbst and his wife, Mindy, and Melvin Herbst, all of Merrill; a brother Ardie Herbst of Merrill; a sister, Dorothy Brown and her husband, Wayne, of Brunsville; 10 grandchildren, Randy, Jodi, Dawn, Gwendy, Holly, Katie, and Michell Herbst, and Julie, Bobbi, and Paul Wielenga.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Arlo and Ben.
