MERRITT A. HAWKINS
Merritt A. Hawkins, 98, of Maurice, a retired farmer, died Nov. 1, 1987, at Brentwood Care Center in LeMars.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in LeMars with Rev. Robert Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, rural LeMars, under the direction of the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home.
Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with a prayer service at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
He was born Oct. 7, 1889, in Sioux County to Jason and Margaret Moir Hawkins. He married Eva Mae Buss March 1, 1916, in Elgin Township, rural LeMars. He farmed in the Maurice area all his adult life and moved into Maurice in 1955.
His wife, Eva, died in 1985. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in LeMars.
Survivors are his son, Kenneth Hawkins of Maurice, and four grandchildren, Mrs. Lavern (Louann) Schmidt of Ireton; Mrs. Kurt (Mary) Korver of Alton; Roy Hawkins and Gene Hawkins, both of Maurice, and nine great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Jessie Simons and an infant brother, Henry.
