AMELIA “AMY” HARRISON
Amelia “Amy” Harrison, 93, of LeMars, died Thursday, Aug. 8, 1996, at Plymouth Manor Care Center.
Amelia “Amy” Henrietta Petersen was born Jan. 1, 1903, on her parents farm near Merrill in rural Plymouth County, to Jens and Emelie (Wedtsteadt) Petersen. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She received her education at the Washington Township country school. She married Eugene Harrison, Feb. 15, 1922. The couple farmed near Merrill for several years and later moved to LeMars in 1934. She did housekeeping and had worked at the Pantry Café and Carmen’s Dress Shop. The couple returned to LeMars in 1964.
She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Merlin and LaVon Harrison of Tendoy, Idaho, Robert and Mary Harrison of LeMars; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Tom Borchers of LeMars and Karen and Ted Roche of LeMars; 21 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; three sisters, Clara Lang of Merrill, Emma Hohmann of Hemet, Calif., and Ella Spies, of Merrill; a son-in-law, Ervan Masuen of LeMars; and a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Harrison of Tendoy, Idaho; and a sister-in-law, June Harrison, of Omaha, Neb.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eugene in 1969; a son, Leonard Harrison in 1991; a daughter, Wilma Masuen in 1986; two grandsons, Terry and Steve Harrison; a sister, Anna Johansen; and two brothers, Herman and Albert Petersen; and daughter-in-law, Alice Harrison.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. today (Monday) at St. John’s Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A., with the Rev. David Kramer officiating. Interment was in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery.
