LE MARS, Iowa --- Lanny Henry Harms, 60, of LeMars, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A., with the Rev. Jean Morse officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Monday with a & p.m. prayer service at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.
Mr. Harms was born Oct. 27, 1939, on the family farm in Grant Township, rural LeMars, the son of Fred and Emma (Kleihauer) Harms. He was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Grant Township. He graduated from LeMars Central High School in 1958.
He married Bonnie Berkenpas on Feb. 14, 1961, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in LeMars.
He farmed for his father for several years, worked for Nutra-Flo in Sioux City and for Plymouth Plumbing and Heating. For the last 25 years he and his brother were partners in Harms Construction.
He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, a 17-year member of LeMars Volunteer Fire Department and a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1381.
Survivors include his wife of LeMars; a son and his wife, Rick and Sherri of Remsen; a daughter and her husband, Lorie and Tim Weiler of Remsen; seven grandchildren, Torri and Haley Harms, Kayla, Kendra, Kelsey, Chad and Cory Weiler; his mother of LeMars; his mother-in-law, Lillian Berkenpas, of LeMars; a brother and his wife, Denny and Patti of LeMars; two sisters and their husbands, Geneva and Marv DeVos, and Jeanne and Randy Jelken, all of LeMars; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gary and Judy Berkenpas of LeMars; and 10 nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Jelken, Steve and Dan DeVos, Mark Berkenpas, Don Butcher, and Bob Grosenheider.
