CHARLOTTE G. PETERSON
Charlotte G. Peterson, 76, of LeMars, died Tuesday, March 26, 1996, at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Sioux City.
Charlotte Gertrude Albert was born September 27, 1919, on the family farm in Elgin Township to Charles G. and Gertrude (VanderMeer) Albert. She attended country school until the 5th grade when her father died. The family moved to LeMars where she continued her education and graduated from LeMars Central High School. After high school, she taught country school for a few years. On April 12, 1942, she married Farley Peterson. Soon after their marriage, Mr. Peterson served his country during World War II. After the war, the couple moved to a farm in Fredonia Township and farmed for 34 years before moving to LeMars in 1984.
Mrs. Peterson was a member of First Baptist Church and was active in the women’s group. She enjoyed being a homemaker, cooking, sewing, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include: her husband; three daughters, Lana Johnson and her husband, Rev. David Johnson of Granite Falls, Minn., Sue Ellen Peterson, of Ramsey, Minn., and Sally and her husband, Bob Becker of Everly; a son, Merle Peterson of LeMars; five grandchildren, Micah, Lucas and Jacob Johnson, and Mark and Teresa Becker.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mary Ellen Kehrberg; three brothers, Carl and Wayne VanderMeer and a brother in infancy.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in LeMars with the Rev. Gordon Rhodes officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in LeMars. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today (Thursday) at First Baptist Church, with the family present after 7 p.m. Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home of LeMars is in charge of arrangements.
