LE MARS, Iowa -- Helen M. Haage, 87, of Le Mars died Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Services will be 4:30 p.m. Saturday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Preston Township, rural Akron, Iowa, with the Rev. William Kallestad officiating. Burial will be in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Helen was born Jan. 10, 1915, in rural Le Mars, the daughter of Henry J. and Mary (Ommen) Lubben. She attended school in Grant Township, rural Le Mars.

She married Gert J. Haage on Oct. 6, 1938. After their marriage, the couple farmed in Plymouth County, Iowa, until they retired and moved to Le Mars. Gert died Jan. 1, 1991. She had been a resident of Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars since November 2001.

She was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Lavoy and Theo Haage of Des Moines and James and Julie Haage of Muscatine, Iowa; a daughter, Linda Hawkins of Council Bluffs, Iowa; five grandsons, Eric Haage and Kirk Haage, both of Des Moines, Ryan Haage and Kerry Haage, both of Muscatine, and Barry Hawkins of Thornton, Colo.; a great-granddaughter, Emmalee Hawkins of Golden, Colo.; and three sisters, Marie DeBoom, Lois Winecoff and Edna Johnson, all of Le Mars.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Alice Pearson; two infant daughters; and a grandson, Jay Hawkins.
