Earl H. Buss, 86, of Le Mars, died Sunday, May 21, 2007 at the Good Samaritan Village of Le Mars.

Earl Harry Buss was born March 20, 1921, on the family farm in Fredonia Township, rural Plymouth County, Iowa the son of Harry and Elizabeth (Utech) Buss. He attended country school in Elgin Township. His father died when Earl was in his late teens. At that time he began to farm the family farm with his mother. Earl was united in marriage to Fay E. Lonnee on Sept. 3, 1952. in Onawa.

Earl continued to farm and raise livestock until his retirement in the fall of 1991. Earl had dedicated his life to farming and was a very good steward of the land. Earl enjoyed his family and in the later years he enjoyed being "grandpa". During their retirement years, Earl and Fay continued to live on the farm.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Fay of Le Mars; four children: Thomas Buss and his wife Elizabeth of Emmetsburg, Douglas Buss and his wife Marleen of Emmetsburg, Curtis Buss and his wife Renae of Le Mars, and Wendy Niccum and her husband Sidney of Clear Lake; seven grandchildren: Carrie (Buss) Naig, Nicole Buss, Rory Niccum, Brennan Buss, Koster Buss, Silas Buss, and Dacia Buss; two great-grandchildren: Madison and Luke Naig; nieces and nephews: Roland Detloff and his wife Barb of Le Mars, Jane Brei and her husband Fred of Reddick, Fla., and Mike Detloff and his wife Kathy of Le Mars; and a sister-in-law, Donna Stiers and her husband Donald of Warren, Mich.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Elizabeth Buss; a granddaughter, Darbi Lou Buss; and a sister, Marian Detloff.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Carlsen Funeral Home with the Rev. Jason Larson officiating. Interment will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery, rural Le Mars. Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Tuesday until service time at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Buss, Douglas Buss, Curtis Buss, Brennan Buss, Sidney Niccum, and Rory Niccum. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Carrie Naig, Nicole Buss, Koster Buss, Silas Buss, Dacia Buss, Madison and Luke Naig; Bill Osborne and a very close friend, Clifford Perry.
