Emma Gertrude (Greaney) Fursee, 80, of Beardsley, Minn., formerly of Sioux City, died Saturday, June 8, 2002, at Browns Valley Health Center in Browns Valley, Minn.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. today at St. Mary Catholic Church in Beardsley, with the Rev. Arlie Sowada officiating. Organist and soloist will be Mary Beth Kelly. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service today at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Larson Funeral Home in Browns Valley.
Emma Gertrude (Greaney) Fursee was born in Bound Brook, N.J., on July 22, 1921. She and her parents moved to Dunellen, N.J., shortly after her birth. She resided in Dunellen until her marriage to Clarence A. Fursee on Sept. 7, 1946.
Mrs. Fursee worked for New Jersey Bell until she was transferred to the Sioux City office. She retired from the Bell office in Sioux City, and the couple moved to their summer home on Big Stone Lake in Beardsley.
She was active in church activities, having taught religious education for 12 years. She also enjoyed Bible study and her friends in Extension Club. Emma was well-known for her hospitality, as she had many out-of-town visitors. She often cooked for and entertained her local friends and neighbors as well. There was always a place for one more at the Fursees' table. Although she had not been able to travel east for quite some time, she and many members of the family were fortunate to have celebrated the Fursees' 50th wedding anniversary on Sept. 7, 1996. She will be sadly missed by all.
She is survived by her husband, Clarence; three sisters, Orrel Mary Kane of Plainfield, N.J., Anne E. Greaney of Robbinsville, N.J., and Catherine McLaughlan of Bound Brook, N.J.; two brothers, Richard T. Greaney of Oroville, Calif., and Joseph Greaney of Frenchtown, N.J.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard A.J. and Orrel W. Greaney; and two brothers, William E. and Robert E. Greaney.

~personal note from transcriber: I worked for Northwestern Bell in Sioux City, IA, right out of highschool. When I was hired in Sept. 1966, Mrs. Gertrude Fursee was my Group Chief Operator in the Sioux City TSP Toll Office. She was a very nice lady; one of my favorite people in the Sioux City office!
