Stanley H. Franklin, 82, of Sioux City died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Buchanan Avenue Baptist Church, 1567 Buchanan Ave., Sioux City. Take Gordon Drive east and go over the bypass until you reach Buchanan Avenue about one half mile east of the bypass. Turn left and the church is about one half mile off Gordon Drive. Burial will be in Kingsley Cemetery, Kingsley, Iowa, with military rites conducted by the American Legion of Kingsley. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Stanley Harold Franklin was born Feb. 8, 1921, in Sioux City, the firstborn son of John and Florence (Johnson) Franklin. He started his schooling in Henry Township rural school and later attended Kingsley High School, where he graduated in 1938. He started his working career at Coles Market in Kingsley in 1940. He left the family home to work in Sioux City at Curtis Sash Door Company.

In 1942 he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps and served three years, one and a half years he served in Italy during World War II. He was honorably discharged. In 1962 he left Curtis Sash Door Company and went to work for two years for Jordan Millwork as a salesman and one year at Kidder Knoeffler Chevrolet. He then joined Wesley Company, a Pella Window distributor, in 1965 as a salesman. He worked there until his death.

He married Lucille Werder on May 27, 1946. She passed away April 15, 1980. He married Mary Lee Jasman on Dec. 20, 1980.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lee of Sioux City; a son and his wife, Stephen and Kathy Franklin Sr. of Bella Vista, Ark.; a daughter, Cindy Hernandez of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Laurel and Eileen Franklin of Fort Meyers, Fla.; two sisters, Elaine Creasey and Marval and her husband, Lyle Simmons, all of Kingsley; four grandchildren, Stephen Franklin Jr., Troy Franklin, Dennis Erickson and Matthew Erickson; three great-grandchildren, Stephen Franklin III, Simon Franklin and Stella Franklin; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Susan; a brother, Darrell; a grandson, Jason Franklin; and two brothers in infancy, Dale and Glendon.
