BERNICE A. BAKER
Bernice A. Baker, 88, of Buffalo, Wyo., formerly of Sioux City, died Thursday, June 21, 2001, in Buffalo.
Private family graveside services were held in Willow Grove Cemetery, Buffalo.
Mrs. Baker was born Sept. 8, 1912, in Akron, Iowa, the daughter of Bernard and Blanche Verlinden. She was raised in Sioux City and graduated from East High School. She graduated from St. Vincent’s Hospital of Nursing in 1932, and took advanced training in surgical nursing in St. Louis, Mo. In 1934 she became employed as a nurse with Midwest Oil Co., in Midwest, Wyo.
She married Glenn Baker on May 11, 1935, in Hot Springs, S.D. In 1942, she was employed with Gillette Hospital in Gillette, Wyo., and then with Sheridan Veterans Administration Hospital in Sheridan, Wyo., in 1943. In 1945 the couple returned to Midwest, Wyo., where she was employed again with Midwest Oil Co. until 1966. She then was a home health care worker until retiring in 1970. They later moved to Buffalo.
Survivors include a son and his wife, John and Joy of Buffalo; a daughter and her husband, Gwen and Don Hendricks of Glendo, Wyo; two sisters, Alma Fitzgibbon and Ruth Tarvin, both of Sioux City; four grandchildren, Sheri Cattnach, Christen Baker, Chris Hendricks and Thomas Baker; two great-grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother and a sister.
