CARL DURR, Sr.
Carl Durr, Sr., 62, who had lived at Merrill the last quarter century, died unexpectedly Saturday (Feb. 21, 1976) at his home after suffering an apparent heart attack.
He was born Aug. 28, 1913, at Merrill, a son of Paul H. and Rachel Ann Pitts Durr. His marriage to Lorraine Margaret Thoms took place at South Sioux City, Neb., on March 2, 1948.
Mr. Durr had been employed at Swift packing company as a meat cutter for 28 years. He lived in LeMars before moving to Merrill. He had recently retired.
He was a veteran of World War II and a member of Oleson-Halweg post American Legion, Merrill. He also was a member of the amalgamated meat cutter and butchers union, local 71.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Mauer funeral chapel, LeMars, with Rev. E. J. Berreth, pastor of the Merrill Methodist church officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, LeMars, under the direction of the Mauer funeral home.
A prayer service will be held Monday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Survivors are his wife Lorraine of Merrill; six children, Mrs. Wayne (Diane) Anstine, LeMars; Fran Durr and Jeannette Durr both of Merrill; Carl M. Durr, Jr, rural LeMars; Mrs. John J. (Marlene) Clarey, Merrill and Mrs. Barry (Delores) Lancaster, LeMars. Also surviving, one brother Orville Sr., of LeMars; and three sisters, Mrs. Earl (Alice) Madsen of LeMars, Mrs. Lloyd (Irene) Nanninga of Struble, and Mrs. Emil (Ellen) Schoenrock of Hawarden.
Also surviving are five grandchildren, Jason and Nikki Anstine and Julie, Rachael and John Clarey; a brother, Orville Durr, Sr., LeMars, and three sisters, Mrs. Earl (Alice) Madsen, LeMars, Mrs. Lloyd (Irene) Nanninga, Struble, and Mrs. Emil (Ellen) Schoenrock, Hawarden.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jean Corley.
Casketbearers will be Orville Durr, Jr., Lamont Schmid, Paul Madsen, Bruce Nanninga, Dennis Schmid and Dennis Schoenrock.
