John Hans Joseph Diercksen, 84, LeMars, a Plymouth County native and lifelong resident, died unexpectedly Monday (April 25, 1988) at his home. He was a retired farmer.

Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in LeMars with Rev. Robert Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.

Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Wednesday with the family present at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

He was born May 27, 1903, in Plymouth County to Thomas John and Amanda Hansen Diercksen. He married Laura Peters Jan. 6, 1928, at Hinton. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. The couple farmed in the Remsen, Akron, Hawarden and LeMars areas since 1970.

Survivors are his wife, Laura, of LeMars; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Ruby) Marshall of Hawarden; four grandchildren, Jim Marshall of Garland, Tex., Reed Marshall of Cleghorn, Bart Marshall and Barb DeVries, both of Hawarden; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Klingbeil of Remsen, Lilly Nelson of Cherokee and Minnie Miller of Lakeside, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, an infant son, Marvin John Thomas Diercksen.
