LE MARS, Iowa -- Michael L. Cripe, 58, of Le Mars died Monday, April 15, 2002, at The Abbey of Le Mars.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars, with Chaplain Merrill Muller officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.
Michael Lee Cripe was born May 29, 1943, in Sibley, Iowa, the son of Weedon and Pearl (Newkirk) Cripe. He was raised and attended high school in Sibley. Following high school, he worked as a truck driver. He later attended Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg, Iowa, majoring in carpentry and construction.
He moved to Le Mars and the Sioux City area and worked for many years as a carpenter and continued his truck driving career. On March 15, 2002, Michael moved to The Abbey of Le Mars due to his failing health.
Michael played guitar with several bands in the area. He enjoyed woodworking and outdoor activities like fishing and camping. He also enjoyed collecting and shooting guns.
He will be lovingly remembered by his loving and devoted fiancee, Bonnie Conner of Le Mars; two sons, Darin and his wife, Marilyn of Sioux City, and Sean of Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter, Diana Cates of Sioux City; six grandchildren, Kyle, Justin, Ryan, Amy, Brian and Sarah; a brother and his wife, Carl and Pujo of Sacramento, Calif.; and three sisters, Carol Mendez and her husband, Gilbert of Lodi, Calif., Virginia Feenstra of Sioux City, and Barbara Kanengieter and her husband, Elmer of Little Rock, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dane Curtis Cripe; a brother, Clayton; and a sister, Frances Boyer.
