Laverne W. "Slim" Eilers, 76, of Sioux City died unexpectedly Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003, due to a heart attack.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Morningside Assembly of God Church, with the Rev. Thomas Jacobs officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Laverne was born June 28, 1927 in Craig, Iowa, to Louis and Henrietta (De Vries) Eilers. He attended Craig Grade School.

He married the former Elva Lowther on Feb. 9, 1947 in Sioux City. He held various positions during his 32 years with Sioux City Truck Sales. One of the highlights of Slim's day was the time spent with his coffee partner, Jerry Wilson.

He was a member of Morningside Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include his wife, Elva; three sons and their wives, Donald and Marie of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Stanley and Cora of Sioux City and Randy and Lori of Ankeny, Iowa; daughter, Pamela Linn and her husband, Jeff of Sioux City; a brother, Donald and his wife, Anne of White Rock, N.M.; 11 grandchildren, Amanda Porter and her husband, Jay, Seth Eilers, Brad Eilers and his wife, Julie, Chad Eilers, Keaton Eilers, Micaela Eilers, Alyssa Linn, Caleb Linn, Richard Eilers, Austin Eilers and Thomas Eilers; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Gary Lee; and a brother, Elmer.

Pallbearers will be Milt Abraham, Harland Gylfe, Mike Martin, Pete Nieuwkoop, Gary Herbst, Jerry Herbst, Craig Mannion and Dick Miille. Honorary pallbearers will be Kit Bucy and Jerry Hesse.
