LeMARS, Iowa -- Steven C. Ehrig, 54, of Le Mars passed away suddenly Thursday, May 1, 2003, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars, with the Rev. Andrew Hoffman officiating. A family burial service will follow at a later date. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Monday at the funeral home.
Steve was born Nov. 11, 1948, in Ida Grove, Iowa, to Robert "Rusty" and Agnes (Martin) Ehrig. He graduated from Cherokee Community High School in 1967. Following his education, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and completed his basic training at Fort Hood, Texas. He later served overseas in Okinawa, Japan. After his honorable discharge from the military, Steve was employed with Illinois Central Railroad.
He married Jayne Gill on Sept. 24, 1972, at Storm Lake, Iowa. The couple were blessed with two daughters, Stephanie Wadell and Alicia "Boo" Ehrig. Jayne passed away on March 24, 2000. Steve was currently employed by Wells Blue Bunny as a machine operator. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and enjoyed playing pool, camping and fishing.
He was a member of the Le Mars Eagles Club and Wasmer American Legion Post 241 of Le Mars. He cherished the time he spent with his children, grandchildren and friends.
Steve will be lovingly remembered by his two daughters, Stephanie Wadell of Le Mars, and Alicia "Boo" Ehrig of Dakota City; his four grandchildren, Zachary and Caleigh Wadell and Jonah and Nathan Upton, all of Le Mars; his fiancee, Pat Harms of Le Mars; his parents, Robert and Agnes Ehrig of Meridan, Iowa; two brothers, Bob Ehrig and his wife, Sandy of Nevada, Iowa, and Dennis Ehrig and his wife, Jeannie of Sumner, Wash.; two sisters, Teresa Hansen and her husband, David of Sutherland, Iowa, and Esther Albers and her husband, Mike of Alton, Iowa.
In addition to his wife, Jayne, he was preceded in death by his grandparents and an infant sister, Kathleen.
