STRUBLE, Iowa -- Freyda (La Velle) Elizondo, 90, formerly of the Struble and Maurice area, and Salix, Iowa, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2005, at her home in Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Struble, with the Rev. William McCarthy officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to service time Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa.

The former Freyda T. DuVal was born July 21, 1914, near Sharps, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Bessie (Herring) DuVal. The family moved to Clearfield, Iowa, where Freyda was raised along with her brothers, Bud, Roland and Robert Jr. (all now deceased), and sisters, Helen Cowell (also deceased) and Maxyne Tolsma of Le Mars. In the early 30s, Freyda moved to Le Mars to assist her sister Maxyne and family.

Freyda married R.J. "Romie" La Velle of the Struble-Maurice area, in December of 1940, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Struble. Romie and Freyda farmed the La Velle family farm and were proud and loving parents to two daughters, Elizabeth Ann La Velle-Mogler and Mary Ellen La Velle-Habben. Mr. La Velle died Jan. 31, 1957. Freyda married Tony Elizondo in April of 1964, and they moved to Brown's Lake near Salix, Iowa. Mr. Elizondo died in June of 1970. Freyda continued to make her home at Salix along with her daughter, Mary Ellen and her children until severe declining health precipitated a move on Feb. 19, 1999 to Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting.

Freyda's life is cherished by her family and friends for her unconditional love, caring and giving. Her memory is treasured by her daughter, Elizabeth and husband, Ken Mogler, the Mogler grandchildren, James and wife, JoBeth, Amy, John and Amanda and her fiance, Sam Chatham; and daughter, Mary Ellen and the Habben grandchildren, Michele and husband, Mike Mareau, and Matthew Habben, and great-granddaughter, Jacque Mareau; a sister, Maxyne Tolsma; a sister-in-law, Catherine La Velle; and the very special family at Pleasant View Care Center.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Habben, Richard Braun Sr., Ken Mogler, John Mogler, James Mogler and Mike Mareau. Honorary pallbearers will be Michele Mareau, Jacque Mareau, Amy Mogler, JoBeth Mogler, Amanda Mogler and Sam Chatham.
