ALCESTER, S.D. -- Gladys Eden, 75, of Alcester died Friday, March 4, 2005, at Morningside Manor in Alcester.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at Peace Lutheran Church in Alcester. Arrangements are under the direction of Wass Funeral Home in Alcester.
Gladys Mae Barinsky was born April 1, 1929, on the family farm near Le Mars, Iowa, to William and Anna (Hillrichs) Barinsky. She was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Akron, Iowa, and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. She attended rural schools and graduated from Akron High School in 1946.
She married Loren Eden on Oct. 22, 1950, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. She became a member of Peace Lutheran Church in 1953, after her husband served in the Korean Conflict, and had been an active member since. The couple farmed in the Alcester area and after the family was grown, she was employed at Morningside Manor and Custom Coils.
She is survived by four children, Karen (Ronald) Addy of Canistota, S.D., Bryan (Janet and Mark (Kay), all of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Rodney (Brenda) of Alcester; nine grandchildren; a great-grandson; two brothers, Raymond (Frances) of Omaha, Ark. and Lowell (Norine) of Akron, Iowa; two sisters, Lorraine (Wayne) Hamilton of Alcester and Eileen (Lennis) Onken of Sioux City; three sisters-in-law, Margaret Eden of Puyallup, Wash., Leora (Delbert) Hamilton of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Mary Ann (Robert) Warner of South Sioux City; a brother-in-law, Roger Eden of Las Vegas, Nev.; and numerous other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Loren in 1989; a brother-in-law, Eldon Eden; and a sister-in-law and her husband, Vera (Eden) and Harold Rich.
The family requests memorials to Peace Lutheran Church in Alcester.
