AKRON, Iowa -- Vedeane J. Colt, 72, of Akron passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2005, at Akron Care Center following brief illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron, with Monsignor Richard Zenk officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with the family present 6 p.m., a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. followed parish rosary at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Carlsen Funeral Home-Schroeder Chapel in Akron.

Vedeane J. Colt was born Jan. 10, 1933, in Jefferson, S.D., the daughter of Victor and Adwilda Blanchard. She was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Jefferson. She attended grade school at St. Peter's Catholic School and later at Jefferson High School, where she graduated in 1950.

She was united in marriage to Douglas Colt on Feb. 6, 1951, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Jefferson. Together, they were the parents of three children, Michael, Mark and Todd. She worked as the head teller for Valley Bank for many years. She worked in North Sioux City, Jefferson and later Elk Point, S.D. She retired in 1999. Following her retirement, she continued to work part-time in Elk Point. The couple lived in Jefferson for more than 49 years before moving to Akron in 1999.

She was a former member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Jefferson, where she was a member of the Altar Society. Most recently, she was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron. She enjoyed golfing and bowling. She was a member of the ladies golf association in Elk Point. She loved to watch her family in their school activities. But most of all, she loved the times spent with her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband of more than 54 years, Douglas of Akron; three children and their wives, Michael and Lucy Colt of Akron, Mark and Carmon Colt of Fredrick, Mich., and Todd and Tammy Colt of Akron; seven grandchildren, Christopher Colt of Ames, Iowa, Keith Colt and his wife, Jaime of Akron, Nicole Turney and her husband, Kelly of Missouri Valley, Iowa, Lindsey Flewwellin and her husband, Phil of Akron, Jeremie Colt of Florida, Tarah Colt of Akron and Tana Colt of Akron; three great-grandchildren, Caleb Colt, Chloee Colt and Taylor Flewwellin; two brothers and their wives, Clifford and Betty Blanchard of Parker, S.D., and Victor and Sally Blanchard of California; three sisters and their husbands, Corrine and Virgil Mollet of Jefferson, S.D., Sonia and Leighton Chicoine of Sioux City and Danielle and Paul Irwin of Jefferson; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Roger Blanchard.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Colt, Keith Colt, Dick Connors, Tom Connors, Paul Irwin, Kent Johnson and Jeremie Colt.
