GRANVILLE, Iowa -- Clark C. Cook, 81, of Granville died Tuesday, July 16, 2002, at Orange City Health System Hospital in Orange City, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Granville, with Monsignor Kenneth Seifried and the Rev. Richard R. Remmes officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, with military rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5347. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today, with a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen, Iowa.

Mr. Cook was born Sept. 19, 1920, in Oyens, Iowa, the son of Henry P. and Agnes (Niehis) Cook. He attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Remsen until he moved with his family to Farmer, S.D. He graduated from Edgerton Consolidated School in Farmer in 1938. He then entered the Civilian Conservation Corps in Fruitdale, S.D. On Jan. 24, 1942, he entered the U.S. Marine Corps and served with the 1st Marine Division on Guadalcanal for 19 months.

He married Rita Schladweiler from Farmer on Jan. 27, 1945, at New Bern, N.C. He was honorably discharged on Jan. 24, 1946. He worked in maintenance for 35 years, living in various communities, including Pipestone, Minn., where he was employed with the school system. From 1964 to 1966, they lived in Great Bend, Kan., where he was employed with Hillyard Sales, selling floor finishes. They then lived in Le Mars, Iowa, where he worked for Gehlen School, Sheldon, Iowa, where he worked for the public schools and also taught the custodial aid course at Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon in the mid-1970s. He retired in 1986. In November 1991, they moved to Granville, where he worked part-time for Spalding School.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5347 of Granville.

Survivors include his wife, Rita of Granville; a son and his wife, Rodney J. and Margaret of Murray, Ky.; three daughters and their husbands, Charlotte and Denny Braun of Remsen, Joyce and Morris Stukey of Great Bend, Kan., and Donna and Dan Horkey of Granville; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Roger Cook of Pierson, Iowa; and four sisters, Velma Geister of Remsen, Arvey Cook of Marcus, Iowa, Mary Zoch of Sheldon and Nancy and her husband, Cliff Pick of Le Mars.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Henry Jr.; a sister-in-law, Lona Cook; and a brother-in-law, Garland Geister.

Pallbearers will be Matt, Paul and Steve Braun, Ryan Cook and Brian and Greg Stukey.
