Sharon K. Dirks, 64, of Sioux City died Thursday, May 19, 2005, at her residence following a courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Morningside Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Renee Spaulding officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

Sharon was born June 9, 1940, in Akron, Iowa. She grew up in Sioux City and completed her education at Central High School.

She married Claire Dirks on Feb. 2, 1962, at Morningside Lutheran Church, where she was a longtime member, teaching Sunday school and Bible school for many years. Sharon worked at Robb Ross Foods, the Biltmore, Bishops and York Steak House, but her main focus in life was loving and caring for her family.

Sharon loved preparing large family meals, attending family events, sports and summers at Spirit Lake.

Survivors include her husband, Claire; two sons and their wives, Robbie and Cindy Dirks of Sioux City, and David and Jean Dirks of Ames, Iowa; a daughter and her husband, Renee and Douglas Bock of Sioux City; seven grandchildren, Nichole and her husband, Jason Bunce, Kyle Dirks, Amber Bock, Emily Bock, Abbie Dirks, Luke Dirks and Caleb Dirks; two brothers and their wives, Bob and Ardith Anderson of Sioux City, and Kenneth and Shirley Anderson of Sioux Falls, S.D.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Florence Anderson; a brother, Bernard Anderson; and two sisters, Nelma Hyndman and Virginia Huisenga.
