KINGSLEY, Iowa -- Ronald G. Dirksen, 74, of Kingsley, formerly of Mapleton, Iowa, died unexpectedly Tuesday, July 10, 2001, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton, with the Revs. Tiedeman and Augustine officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a rosary at 4 p.m. and a Scripture service at 7 p.m., at Earnest-Michaelson Funeral Home in Kingsley. Visitation with the family present will resume one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.

Mr. Dirksen was born Aug. 1, 1926, in Mapleton, the son of Joseph and Barbara (Theobold) Dirksen. He graduated from Mapleton High School in 1944. He served in the U.S. Army following World War II, stationed for one year in Japan.

He married Shirley Nixon on June 7, 1948, in Mapleton. The couple farmed for 18 years, then moved to Auburn, Wash., where he was employed with Boeing Aircraft. They returned to Mapleton in 1969, where he was employed with Reinbold Trucking before operating Dirksen Trucking for eight years. In 1994, the moved to Kingsley, where he was an apartment manager at Kingston Apartments. His wife died March 14, 2001.

He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Kingsley and Kingsley American Legion.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Phyllis and Earl Davis of Gainsboro, Tenn., and Rosemary and Dan LeFebvre of Lawton, Iowa; two sons and their wives, Alan and Susan of Dunbar, Neb., and Tim and Debbie of Kingsley; four sisters, Sister Ronald Dirksen of Dubuque, Iowa, Anna Oberreuter of Danbury, Iowa, Louise Sander of Mapleton and Mary Arney of Onawa, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, Chris Klamm, Matt, Eliza, Steve and Joe LeFebvre, Anna, Jonathon, Ross, Jerica and Amanda Dirksen; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John; four brothers, Edmund, George, Leo and Joseph; and three sisters, Pearl Dickman, Clara Schleimer and Rosina Miller.

Pallbearers will be Chris Klamm, Matt and Joe LeFebvre, Jonathon and George Dirksen and Mike Flanigan.
