HORNICK, Iowa -- Aloysius A. "Al" Delperdang, 84, of Hornick died Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at his residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Catholic Church in Onawa, Iowa, with the Rev. Harry D. McAlpine officiating. Burial will be in Holly Springs Cemetery, Holly Springs, Iowa. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a Scripture service at 7 p.m., at Wood Funeral Home in Sloan, Iowa.

Mr. Delperdang was born Dec. 29, 1917, in Remsen, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Emma (Lehman) Delperdang. His early years were spent in the Remsen area, where he attended school. He graduated from St. Mary's of Remsen in 1935. He was drafted in April 1942 into the U.S. Army and served as an artillery gunner instructor at Gowen Field in Boise, Idaho. He was discharged on Nov. 14, 1945, with the rank of staff sergeant.

He entered the banking profession after his service to his country. He served as cashier/bank officer for the Hornick and Whiting (Iowa) banks, retiring in 1988 after 45 years.

He was an avid fisherman and gardener, and collected coins and stamps. He had many Purple Martin houses at his home, where he enjoyed watching the birds.

He is survived by four children, Douglas of Keokuk, Iowa, Carl Martin "Marty" and his wife, Marcia, of South Sioux City, Faye Jean and her husband, Jim Harvey, of Kingsley, Iowa, and Lori Lynn and her husband, Rick Swanson, of South Sioux City; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his former wife of over 40 years, Della; a sister, Cecelia Kramer of Phoenix, Ariz.; a brother and his wife, Cletus and Jenny of Los Angeles; and a sister-in-law, Verda Delperdang of Merrill, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Thomas in 1991; a brother, William; and a sister, Rosemary Reynolds.
